Assessment

Prior to any hands-on organizing, the organizer meets with prospective clients to learn about their situation and what they are trying to accomplish, including
  • goals, motivation and timeline for the project
  • individual style, skills and strengths
  • any challenges that may hinder organizing progress
  • investments of time, energy and budget
  • the best schedule for organizing and/or coaching sessions

During the Assessment, we'll discuss the best approach for your organizing project, including:
  • how to get started
  • how to move through the different phases of your project
  • organizing supplies, storage containers or other equipment you’ll need
  • what to do with the items you decide to donate; I can help you simplify the process of getting your donations to the right organizations while maximizing associated deductions or other  the value of any items you donate as part of your organizing efforts
  • helpful references and resources

On-Site Organizing
After reviewing the plan, you decide whether you want to schedule time with me or move ahead on your own.  My experience has shown that best results come from work sessions of four hours or more. That gives us sufficient time to focus on a particular aspect of your project, make satisfying progress and still have enough time to put everything where it belongs.

Most clients find the hands-on organizing to be very satisfying and energizing.  There is hard work involved, but everyone enjoys the sense of accomplishment that comes after each session. Some clients do best when they take breaks during the session, enjoy the momentum that comes from uninterrupted focus.  Whatever your  preference, we’ll work together to identify an approach that suits you.

Most clients find that getting control of their stuff is a lot less painful than they anticipated and that this success spreads to other areas of their lives.
